ALL IRELAND HURLING TICKETS
Crotta Hurling Club members requesting tickets for All-Ireland Hurling Final: Limerick against Kilkenny at Croke Park, on Sunday 2nd September, Contact Club Secretary Paul Shanahan at 087 9715781, before Wednesday evening, 29th August.

Will it be Kilkenny’s 30th or Limerick’s eighth?
Will Kilkenny retain the Guinness All-Ireland hurling crown or will Limerick end a 34-year wait? The answer to that question will be provided in Croke Park on Sunday (3.30) when the counties clash in the All-Ireland final and, barring a draw, bring down the curtain on what has been an excellent 2007 campaign. It will be the first time since 1974 that they have met in the final while their last championship meeting was two years ago when Kilkenny won an All-Ireland quarter-final by five points. Kilkenny are chasing their 30th title which would bring them alongside Cork at the top of the honours table. Limerick are hoping to win their 8th title, thereby consolidating their fourth place position on the honours table behind Cork, Kilkenny and Tipperary. Kilkenny and Limerick last clashed in a competitive game in the National League last March which Kilkenny won by 2-17 to 0-12.

LEAVING CERT RESULTS
ON Wednesday of last week the Leaving Cert results came out and we offer our congratulations to the students, parents and teachers alike. Some were elated while others may have been a little disappointed.
At the moment results seem to be the only thing that matters, but to accept this is to have a worms eye view of education. It ignores the real education that may or may not have gone on i.e. the opinions formed, the values clarified, friend-ships made, the ability to relate, skills acquired, a sense of God. These are the real tests of a person. The exam for these comes later and the results are the bits and pieces of every day life. So parents and students who are elated or deflated by the recent results, accept them for what they are, the reality of the present.

KERRY V THE DUBS

Mike O'Connell and Frankie Lynch with the Jimmy King Memorial Shield at Parker's Pub on Thursday 19th July
Local Kerry supporters will travel to Dublin on Sunday 26th August for the All- Ireland Senior Semi Final V Dublin in Croke Park at 3.30 p.m.
Dublin hasn’t beaten Kerry in the Championship, since that semi-final in 1977. The nearest they came to it was that quarter-final draw in Thurles in 2001, when Maurice Fitzgerald kicked his famous free. The last time the teams met in a quarter final in 2004, Kerry ate Dublin without salt. And even more interestingly, Dublin hadn’t beaten Kerry before the 1976 All-Ireland since 1934, according to a text message on Des Cahill’s show recently. This means that Dublin have two victories to show for seventy-three years of this so-called greatest rivalry in Gaelic football. Best of luck to the Pat O’Shea and the Kerry team on Sunday, and safe journey to all Kerry supporters travelling to and from the match. C’mon the Kingdom.

G.A.A RESULTS
Galway sealed their place in the All-Ireland MFC final for the first time since 1994 with a deserved win over Kerry in a scintillating semi final at Croke Park on Sunday on the 2-14 to 0-17 final score line.

CROTTA UNDERAGE HURLING
Pride of place in the club over the past couple of weeks goes to the victorious under 10 panel who recently won the Donal O'Flaherty Shield. The under 10 blitz was held in Ardfert on Saturday 28th July. Crotta were drawn in the same group as Kilgarvan, Duagh, Abbeydorney and Ballyduff. Our first game was against Ballyduff and the team line out as follows:
Goalkeeper - Barry Mahony,
Backs - Brandon Conway, Darragh Ryan and Thomas Quinlan,
Midfield - Raymond Nolan, Adrian Mahony, Darragh Regan,
Forwards - Sean O'Donoghue, Jordan Conway, David Behan.
Subs - (all used over three games) Dylan McElligott, Darragh Kennelly, Dominic Nolan, Bill Keane, Darragh Sheehan and Jack McKenna.
Crotta raced into an early lead here following two pointed frees by Jordan Conway. These were followed shortly after by a mighty effort by Adrian Mahony which split the uprights . After a point blank save by goalie Barry O'Mahony, Sean O'Donoghue found Jordan Conway with a nice hand pass and Jordan only dispatched the sliotar to the Ballyduff net. Ballyduff closed the first half scoring with a point from play. Crotta were dominant at midfield in the first half.
Half time score Crotta 1-03, Ballyduff 0-1.
Within a minute of the second half Crotta entered their lead after David Behan netted. Following the resultant puck-out a clearance by Adrian Mahony found Jordan Conway in space who again found the net. At this stage Bill Keane and Jack McKenna replaced Sean O'Donoghue and David Behan. Two points from Jordan Conway and one from Darragh Sheehan who had just come on completed the scoring.
Final score Crotta 4-06, Ballyduff 1-1

The Jubilant Crotta under 10 hurlers, their mentors and their supporters with The Donal O’Flaherty Memorial Shield at The under 10 Hurling blitz in Ardfert on Saturday 28th July
Crotta's next game was against Kilgarvan. This was a tough battle where no quarter was asked or given. The backs had to show tremendous character here and they were not found wanting. Darragh Ryan, Brandon Conway and Thomas Quinlan blocked, hooked and harried their opponents time and time again. They cleared their lines on numerous occasions and from one of these clearances Jordan Conway plucked the sliotar from the air and shot to the Kilgarvan net. Shortly after following a mighty clearance from full back Darragh Ryan a chop on Jordan once again resulted in a pointed free.
Half time Crotta 1-1, Kilgarvan 0-0.
The second half opened with a couple of frees to Crotta but these were not converted. Then half way through the half Raymond Nolan gained possession and hit a hard low shot which deflected off the Kilgarvan keeper to the roof of the net. With two even teams the match was an exhilarating contest. This score was the last of the match.
As Duagh were beaten twice they were eliminated and so Crotta would play the winners of Ballyduff and Kilgarvan. The Roughty Valley men overcame Ballyduff to set up another titanic battle with Crotta. A feature of their play was the stylish hurling of Mike Foley's son. His mother is Geraldine McIntyre so he has hurling from all sides.
Final: The selectors tweaked their team over the three matches and the team that took to the field was as follows:
The Crotta u-10 players celebrate The under 10 Hurling blitz in Ardfert on Saturday 28th July, with The Donal O’Flaherty Memorial Shield

Goalkeeper - Barry Mahony,
Backs - Brandon Conway, Darragh Ryan and Thomas Quinlan,
Midfield - Raymond Nolan, Adrian Mahony, Darragh Regan,
Forwards - Sean O'Donoghue, Jordan Conway, Darragh Sheehan.
Subs - Dylan McElligott, David Behan, Darragh Kennelly, Dominic Nolan, Bill Keane, and Jack McKenna.
The game was only seconds old when Barry Mahony made a magnificent save to keep the match scoreless. Play swung from end to end throughout the first half. Adrian Mahony was on Kilgarvan's danger man and gave a wholehearted display making him ineffective. Sean O'Donoghue hooked Kilgarvans full back to create a chance for Darragh Sheehan but his shot was saved. A Jordan Conway side line which again fell to Sheehan but this time his shot was deflected for a 65. Halfway through the half Sean O'Donoghue gained possession having evaded his marker and opened the scoring with a well taken point. The same player was fouled shortly after having his jersey pulled but to everyone's amazement the referee waved play on.
Half time Crotta 0-01, Kilgarvan 0-00.
Adrian Mahony found Jordan Conway shortly after the re-start and a goal resulted. This half followed the pattern of the first half and was end to end. Raymond Nolan won a great ball and flashed it to the net to put some daylight between the teams. Kilgarvan heads seem to drop and Crotta at this stage could sense victory. Adrian Mahony scored a great point from out on the right wing. The same player goaled almost immediately was following great saves from Kilgarvans goalie. Both Jordan Conway and Darragh Sheehan had shots saved by the goalkeeper who was helpless when Mahony followed up. Crotta the introduced all subs.
Final score Crotta 3-02, Kilgarvan 0-00.
The final score does not reflect how well Kilgarvan played and much credit goes to them. But for Crotta it was a tremendous victory and a bit of history as we had never won at this grade before. Barry Mahony gave a brilliant display of shot stopping and who knows what might have happened in the final if he had not evicted such a great save. The back line of Conway, Ryan and Quinlan proved how teak tough they were when called upon and their opponents earned scores off these trio. In midfield we had a great mix of skill and hard work. Raymond Nolan has so much skill and both Adrian Mahony and Darragh Regan work so hard. Adrian was man of the match in the final and is a great ground hurler. Upfront Jordan Conway was awarded Player of the Tournament was ably assisted by Sean O'Donoghue (who opened the scoring in the final), David Behan (a great trier who never gives up) and Darragh Sheehan (not hurling that long but a great prospect). A team is only as good as its bench and with Crotta it’s no different. All subs played their part.
