There was lively demand for the Crotta Hurling Club lotto tickets during the week but no one came up with the winning combinations. ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE at 4.00 p.m
A large crowd attended the Kilflynn St. Patrick’s Day Parade meeting on Thursday night 4th March in St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn, it was agreed at the meeting to hold the annual parade at the new time of 4.00 p.m with a new route.
Kilflynn St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on Wednesday 17th March and The Parade and Fancy Dress Parade will commence at 4.00 p.m. from Kilflynn National School going down to the bridge before returning to St. Columbas Centre, for the judging in the Fancy dress competitions. There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places in under 3, 6,10, and Over 10. There will also be medals for all those who take part. All those interested in Participating please assemble at the School at 3.30 p.m.

SCOR NA PAISTI
The North Kerry Hurling board scor na bpaisti competitions were held in Community Parish Hall, Abbeydorney on Friday night 5th March. The Crotta hurling club contested with strong representation in three categories . Instrumental music was represented with a lovely assemble of Fiona Hunt (Concertino) Aoife Mahony (Concertino) Katie Quilter (Fiddle) and Nathan Fahy (Banjo). This group equipped themselves very well on the night and we hope to hear more from them in the future.
The Figure dancing group consisted of six students from Kilflynn National School, Adam O’Sullivan, Barry Mahony, Edith White, Aisling Breen, Megan Glavin and Jennifer Leonard. This group were a credit to their teacher Mrs Mary Mc Carthy who took the time to travel with them on the night and had them so well prepared.
The quiz team took first place honours on the night, having obtained full marks after four rounds. The wizz-Kids who represented the club were Raymond Nolan, Cathal Kennelly, Thomas Quinlan And Aoife Mahony. They will now go forward to represent the Crotta in the county semi final in Community Parish Hall, Abbeydorney on Sunday 14th March.
The club would like to congratulate all the children who took part in this event and express a sincere thank you to them and their parents on the work and time put into practise and preparation. Great credit must also go to newly appointed Crotta Scor officer Anne Mahony who organised and prepared the Children for this competition at short notice. It is hoped to expand into other categories next year, so all you talented people, young and not so young get prepared , store away the Hurley’s , dust off the dance shoes, tune up the vocal chords and fiddles and get out and represent your club.

REFEREES COURSE
The Kerry County Board have announced that they are running a course for any person looking to become a referee. Crotta hurling club are looking for any club member interested in becoming a referee to contact club secretary Mark Hussey. It is important that the club be proactive in providing referees, as it takes the pressure off the existing referees.

The Crotta Senior hurlers got their 2010 season off on a winning note at Abbeydorney on Saturday, 6th March, against the home side in North Kerry hurling league on the 1-12 to 0-13 score line. The home side led by 0-10 to 0-06 at the interval break.

CROTTA COISTE NA NOG TRAINING
Please note that No training will take place for 5 to 8 year olds on Friday March 12th either due to a coaching course in Causeway that evening. All underage club coaches are asked to attend the coaching course in Causeway. The club coaching officer will contact club coaches shortly. Training for 5 to 8 year olds will resume on Friday 19th March at 7pm till 8pm. Training for 12 & 13 year olds will resume on Sunday March 14th at noon. The Tuesday evening training for U10 will take place as normal.
Training course for underage club coaches will take place on Friday March 12th in Causeway at the Ball Wall for 1 hour from 7pm to 8pm. Please be at the venue at 6.45pm.

REGISTRATION
As previously stated Crotta hurling club membership is due for renewal. As directed by Croke Park Club members have to be registered by 31st March 2010. Only registered members will be allowed to vote at Club AGM and the club is also discussing the option of limiting the draw for All Ireland tickets to members registered in time.

BALLSEEDY MARTYRS
There was a large turnout in the North Kerry village of Kilflynn on Sunday, February 28th to honour the men who were killed by Free State forces at Ballyseedy outside Tralee in March 1923. The event was chaired by Morgan O' Flaherty. In his welcoming address, he said that the presence of such a large number was testimony to the esteem in which the memories of these men are still held. The main oration was delivered by Deputy Martin Ferris who said that the bravery of these men contrasted with the cowardly brutality of those who engaged in such atrocities during the Civil War. He called on all present to ensure that the objectives of these men will be achieved and that we will see an Ireland free from partition and inequality. The commemoration ended with the playing of Amhran na bhFian by the Ballyseedy Martyrs' Band.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
Kilflynn St. Patrick’s Day Parade meeting will be held on Thursday night 4th March in St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn at 9.00 p.m. sharp All Musicians, Organisations, School Kids Parents. It’s most important the Parents, help out with the fancy dress parade competition this year. Please attend this meeting. All Ideas welcome and everybody is very welcome to attend.

TABLE QUIZ
The Crotta Senior Management held a quiz night in both Parkers Pub and Herbert’s Bar, Kilflynn on Friday last the 26th February. The quiz was in aid of the senior training expenses. As you may be aware the Crotta hurling club is undertaking a huge project in 2010 in which it is intend to carry out major drainage works to improve the playing surface, at their pitch in Dromakee, Kilflynn. As you can appreciate this is a big expenses to the club and as a result we the senior management wanted to bring in some funding to help fund our activities throughout the year. The quiz night was a huge success raising 2,600.00. A great night of fun was had by all.

After 8 rounds of 10 questions, The winners of the quiz with a score of 70 were The Terriers from Tralee, team members Geraldine Sheehy, Paul Culloty, Maureen Guerin and Breda O’ Regan. In second place with a score of 67 were Cork City, team members consisting of Kay Crowley, James Crowley and Anthony Guerin, and in third place with a score of 64 were The O’Mahony Raiders team member consisting of Bridget Leen, Eileen Falvey, Brendan Falvey snr and Brendan falvey jnr. Congratulations to all. There are a few people that need to be thanked for the success of the event. They are, our quizmasters, Sonny Egan, Paddy Weir who were excellent on the night, the paper correctors consisting of: John Howard, Frankie Lynch, Caroline Lynch and Dan McCarthy. Our hard working ladies, Annette Nolan, Mary Dillon, Betty Falvey and Maureen Mc Elligott who collected all the answer sheets throughout the night as well as selling raffle tickets at the interval. To David O’Regan of the Duagh Football and Hurling Club who donated a special Hurley of the Crotta 1968 County Senior champions, which was auctioned on the night, and was purchase by the Cronin‘s brothers of Irrebeg Lixnaw and company. Abbeydorney Golf Society held a well attended Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 23rd February when the officers reported on a very successful year for the society in 2009. The following officers were elected for the coming year, Captain Jerome McCarthy, President Raymond Roche, Vice-Captain, Sandy Egan, Secretary/Treasurer Tom McNeice and PRO Frank O Donovan. We wish Jerome and Raymond all the best for the year.
The first outing of the year will be held at Tralee Golf Club, Barrow on Saturday 3rd April, further details will be available nearer to the date.

KERRY SENIOR HURLERS
The Kerry Senior hurlers continued their winning streak in the National league div 3a in Castlebar, on Sunday 28th February with a victory over the home side Mayo with a score of 1-18 to 2-14. The teams were even at half time Kerry 0-11 to 1-8 to Mayo.
The Crotta hurling club was well represented by Andrew Keane (right corner back) and Shane Nolan who scored his first two points in the National league at Right Corner Forward and Richard Nolan (Sub) and Tudy Ryan, Knocknacaska, Kilflynn was the team physio. Well done lads. Kerry are at home to Meath on Sunday 14th March in Round 3

STARS OF OUR BARS
Stars Of Our Bars talent competition is continuing in Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn every Sunday night to packed audiences and runs for another two weeks.
Applications are still very welcome – so if you think you’ve got what it takes to go all the way then enter today – application forms available online at www.parkerspub.com or by calling into the bar. There is no entry fee. The V.F.I is promoting this national competition and there is an overall prize fund of €50,000 sponsored by Smithwick’s. The winner of the grand final will go forward to the county final stage where the prize money for the winner is €1,000 and second and third prizes will be given. Additionally the prize money for the national winner is €7,500, €2,500 for second place, and €1,000 for third. This talent competition is a national event and is run in association with the VFI.
The competition is open to singers, dancers, musicians, comedians and poets over the age of 18. GAA GAELTACHT SCHOLARSHIPS 2010
The Kerry County Board in conjunction with the Munster Council and Colaiste Chorca Dhuibhne are offering part scholarships to both boys and girls between the age of 12 and 18 in the Chorca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht. In addition to improving their knowledge of Irish the students will also learn Irish songs and dance. Students will also learn the skills of Gaelic Football and Hurling during the course. The available dates are June 30th to July 22nd or July 23rd to August 14th. Those interested should contact the County Board Office at 066-7122061 or any of the club officers.

RAG MEETING

Competitive action gets underway in North Kerry on this Saturday, 6th March, with the Senior Hurling League. Crotta Seniors are away to Abbeydorney at 5.00 p.m.
Best of luck to the lads in green and red and their management team of Seamie Sheehan, Paul Shanahan and John Shanahan for the 2010 season.
The teams have been drawn in 2 groups with the top 2 in each qualifying for the Senior ‘A’ Final and the second placed in each group playing in the Senior ‘B’ Final. Round 1 fixtures are as follows; Group 1 - Ballyduff v Kilmoyley; Causeway v St. Brendan’s v; Group 2 - Lixnaw v Ballyheigue; Abbeydorney v Crotta O’Neill’s. Further rounds on the weekends of the 3rd and 17th April.

Arthritis Ireland is running a ‘Living Well With Arthritis’ (self management) programme at the Shannow Family Resource Centre, Abbeydorney. The cost is just €20 euro for 6 sessions. Names now being taken for the next course - please contact the centre on 066 71 98018.

NURSERY CHIMES
Baby Music Class, at the Shannow Family Resource Centre: This class is with Emma Shanahan and is for babies aged from 2 months to 2 years, with their parents.
